About Us...
| 1963 | Abraham Spurrell and his partner open Technical Publications, Inc. (TPI) in a 600 square foot area that was previously a small corner market on Moody Street in Waltham. |
| 1964 | Abe’s son Jim joins his father to help run TPI. Together, this father and son team completed every phase of the printing process themselves. Using an old meat freezer as their first darkroom, Abe spends his time shooting negatives and working in the bindery department. Jim does image assembly, operates the presses and delivers the finished jobs. |
| 1968 | As TPI begins to grow, Abe’s wife Pearl and Jim’s wife Diana join the team. Soon after TPI buys its first 25” Heidelberg press. |
| 1972 | With continued growth TPI remains committed to operating in Waltham, MA and buys a 3,600 square foot building located on Myrtle Street leasing half of it. |
| 1977 | TPI adds a two-color Heidelberg press, cutter and folder, and expands into the whole building on Myrtle Street. Photo typesetting is added and TPI makes a commitment to continue introducing new technology. |
| 1980’s | TPI expands its photo typesetting department during the decade that changes the printing industry forever. With the introduction of new technology and software, such as Pagemaker on the Macintosh DTP platform, TPI remains at the forefront of the revolution. |

| 1998 | TPI moves to its current location, an 8,000 square foot plant, at 45 Calvary Street in Waltham. A four-color Heidelberg press is added and the desktop publishing department is expanded. |
| 2003 | At the age of 80, Abe retires from TPI. Jim and Diana, along with their son Daniel Spurrell and daughter Carrie Grove handle the day-to-day operations of the business ensuring that TPI will continue to be a family owned and operated business. |
